The beginnings of the 2017 vintage

The question is on everyone's lips... "What will the 2017 vintage be like?". So, I'll take some time to answer you and give you my vision of this somewhat special vintage!

When I say "special", I am thinking in particular of the very dry weather that worried us throughout the spring and summer.  If I had to remember one thing about this year, it would be the lack of rain! And drought means an early vintage. That's an understatement... We started harvesting on Monday 21 August: a record for me! Since I've been a winemaker, I've never started harvesting so early.

I was also particularly concerned about the ripeness and balance that could be disturbed by the heat and drought. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the harvest once it was in the cellar. All the more so as at Patrimonio, we had very correct yields.

It is still a little early to make a definitive statement on the quality of the finished wines, as we have not yet tasted any clarified wines. However, after the first analyses carried out in the cellar, I am almost certain that the reds will be very fine wines for ageing and that the whites are rich and balanced. As for the 2017 rosés, they will be of a very high quality!

I can't wait to see the evolution of this vintage that I am not ready to forget!
